At 85 years of age, would you be physically and mentally prepared to Climb Mt Kilimanjaro and set a World Record?
That’s just what Anne Lorimor is preparing to do this week! She’s currently in Africa with a team of experienced and novice climbers, several whom I personally know from my CEO Space network. Werner Berger, who is leading the expedition, currently holds the record for being the oldest man in the world to have climbed the tallest 7 peaks on the 7 continents.
Not in my wildest dreams could I imagine a great-grandmother even attempting set a climbing world record – until I met Anne!
I know some people half Anne’s age who are nowhere close to having the vitality to climb a hill, let alone Mt Kilimanjaro. Anne is passionate and confident she will accomplish this feat! Why? Because she wants to raise awareness and funding for the Challenge Youth Fund which she established in 2004 to help disadvantaged children become all they can be.
The climb begins on July 5, and will be a slow and steady trek over a 9 day period. When Anne reaches the summit on July 9 she will become the oldest woman to have climbed Mt Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa.
I am blessed to be part of the home team cheering them on and helping spread the word.
If you want to know more about this amazing woman or follow her historic expedition through videos, photos, and blog posts from the climbing team, visit https://imwatchinganne.org/. Recently James McFadden and I did a Monday Momemtum Google Hangout where we talk about the upcoming adventure. Our usual Monday Momentum host, Sarah Coolidge is on this journey with Anne. She will be our roving reporter and posting information as time and access permit. There is also a professional film crew going along, so some day we’ll see more footage on TV!
Can you contribute $1 per 1,000 ft of climb and help support the Challenge Youth Fund?
A GoFundMe Campaign was created to help cover some of the expenses of the expedition, but primarily to help Anne’s Youth Challenge Fund. People are giving what they can. A suggested donation is $1 per 1,000 ft which is only $19 for the 19,000 ft climb. If you want 100% proceeds to go directly to the children, use this link instead.
What is your lofty goal for when you turn 85?
Think we could pull together an IPPW challenge to celebrate? I am not up for Mt Kilimanjaro myself, but I’d love to hear your ideas for a group event. Comments are turned off, but please share using the contact us form.
To Your Success!
